Motörhead: Pælingar um March or Die
Poppsöguleg endurskoðun:
March or Die er ekki sá sögulegi botn sem Motörhead á að hafa náð, þar sem þeir seldu sál sína fyrir von um smá pening.
Es. Úr því að við erum á þessum slóðum, mér finnst Another Perfect Day æði og ég dýrka gítarinn. „Turn You Round Again“ er í sérstöku uppáhaldi en það náði reyndar ekki inn á plötuna, var set á b-hliðina á „I Got Mine“. Stórkostlegt, og pínu óvenjulegt lag með góðum, hjartnæmum texta.

Music history revision:
Motörhead’s March or Die is not the turd or/and the commercial sellout it has generally been laid out to be. It’s uneven for sure, and some songs have a methodological, “going for gold” pop sheen on them but Lemmy and co had actually gone for that before.
So, “Stand” has a plastic, arena chanting melodrama to it, “Cat Scratch Fever” is pretty pointless and “Too Good to be True” a desperate plea for a hit.
But…
“Bad Religion” is a solid, hard and grim rocker, “Jack the Ripper” is in similar vein and “I Ain’t no Nice Guy”, c’mon guys, it’s sweet! Lemmy’s singing is good, Ozzy’s guesting a very welcome one and if anything, a nice break-up of the formula (like “1916”, “Nightmare/The Dreamtime” and all the “off the chosen route” songs have done for us). “Asylum Choir” is also a solid song. And the title track, great! More experimental and twisted take on the “1916” ballad. Horridly beautiful. The rest is a neither here-nor-there affairs that all the other Motörhead albums are full of ass well, except Ace of Spades and Overkill.
No, the absolute bottom is still Rock’n’Roll, with only one redeeming song, “Traitor”.
Ps. While we are on the subject, I absolutely love Another Perfect Day and the guitar sound is “perfect”. Personal favourite, a song that didn’t even make the album, “Turn You Round Again”, the b-side to “I Got Mine”. Magnificient, off the cuff track with great, inspiring lyrics.
